If you want to read a book of poems that compassionately tends to what is personal in the politics of immigration, labor, inspiration, and power, look no further than Susanne Dyckman’s A Dark Ordinary. It’s a lovely book that feels strangely prophetic in light of Trump’s recent win. Her poems give voice to early 20th century child laborers, immigrants, and other subjects from Lewis Hine’s photographs.
